I HOPE

You know it's funny how it works.  Because even when I don't like you, I still love you. Even when we don't get along, I want you to hold out your arms and say, "who did it to my baby? " Like a mom after discipling her child. Because you're the only one that can cause it, and take it away at the same time. So.. I hope you hold me tonight. I hope you tell me what you love about me. I hope you kiss my forehead. I hope we find something to laugh about. I hope you see past the hurt girl, who just wants to feel like a woman. I hope you comfort my loneliness. I hope you're not tired of me. I hope you'll always love me. Because.. I know that I'll always love you.

Spring Rolls

Somedays, I wonder how you feel.. I think like how spring rolls entice my taste buds.. The fried kind, of course. Good, but wrong for my diet. Maybe I shouldn't want them so bad. But I like to keep a box of them in my home. For when I'm ready to indulge. In you..... I mean them.

I GUESS

You don't seem to enjoy my conversations anymore.  I know by your sly remarks.  Your face showing how I don't understand your world. How common isn't so common in our worlds. Or maybe I'm reading too much I guess I should stop mistaking you for our book shelf. I guess I'm just trying to find the answers to your reasons. The why's that you seem too uncomfortable to answer. Too occupied to hear my questions I guess this is what happens when opposites attract. Too bad the same don't.

"The Pledge of No Allegiance"

"I don't pledge the allegiance to America's flag, on which my ancestor's backs it was built on. And to the racism, for which it stands. This nation, not one at all. Without unity and no freedom for all."  ✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿

Dear Future Son

Dear future son, Because of your parents, you have been blessed with the fortunate misfortune of being black. More specifically, a black man in America. Of carrying melanin, like they carry hate. Like they carry guns. Like they carry sticks and stones, yet their words consistently pierce through skin. So don't let that phrase fool you. Being black, being a man, living in America is not an easy job. Yet, there are no bonuses or incentives for getting through to the next day. Only smiling mothers and crushed white Male egos.  Because they've been trying to take you down, since the MayFlower. Trying to keep you from blooming and having more black sons.  Wishing you would miss the boat that Noah built, while forcing you on another.  Dear future black son, I am begging God to protect you.  From those who used your ancestors as a crutch, tool.  Then tossed them to the side when the work was done.  While his brothers praised him for a job well done. ...

Flowers

Image
We sit in the bed that the flowers have made for us. They celebrate us while we're alive. We celebrate our love like the color orange. Not many people give it the credit. But, we know that the underrated soon traps those Under their feet. Cause our love is undefeated. Blossoming like wildflowers coming back stronger and better. Sit with me. And hold me like the sky holds the day. The clouds hold the rain. The sun holds our skin and places it back with a glow. That's why you're so important to when things are so dark. I need you to illuminate, guide me. Like God nested in you to show me the closest thing He could find to compare to Him. So I would understand what love really means. And let's not pick arguments like we pick flowers. Let's keep everything in its place. Where it should be. Us both dwelling in this garden. Finding ourselves in our eyes, in these flowers.  This poem was inspired by this picture. What do you feel/see looking at this p...

LOVE FOR LIBERTY

Love For Liberty This poem was inspired by the Gentrification of East Liberty in Pittsburgh, PA. It is for those who were once in love with a place they called home, just to get it taken away from the effects of gentrification: DEFINITION (the process of repairing and rebuilding homes and businesses in a deteriorating area (such as an urban neighborhood) accompanied by an influx of middle-class or affluent people and that often results in the displacement of earlier, usually poorer residents of a neighborhood.) This poem can also be found in a recent short film I was apart of called: Liberty Child

Love Her Right

She treats you like man. So treat her like a Woman. Soft and delicate.

WHEN YOU'RE BETTER WITHOUT

I found you in my home. You said your heart was there. You left it when you ran away, And took everything but it. Maybe you thought if you had something to come back for, That you'd have a reason to see the residue of your bad decisions. And that you'd clean it up and make it better. Then once the house was clean, it would be liveable. And maybe your home again. But, I threw it out with the rest of the trash. When I realized that it was no good for me.... or you. And that my house was clean. Until you decided to walk back in.
